World Environment Day WED

June 5th 2010
World Environment Day (WED) was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Commemorated yearly on 5 June, WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

I’d just announced this WED to Els when she excitedly told me the (red) squirrels were back in the garden feeding of the bird nut-holders opposite the kitchen.

Ion rua aras araís - Red aquirrel back again.

Great to see the squirrel/a back after an absence of almost a year – following the (road) death of the mother.

  1. This morning 09 June about 06.30 I couldn’t sleep and came down to work on computer. I spotted another red squirrel on the same feeder but as I went out to feed the birds s/he made off and I saw it had a distinctive faun/yellow tail. Never seen nor heard of a yellow-tailed squirrel before.
